Bakery Pest Control Sydney

Flour is the perfect pest food: fine, abundant and impossible to fully remove from a working bakery. Redback runs bakery programs around stored product insects, oven voids and intake points — the three places bakery infestations actually live.

The risk

Why bakeries battle stored product insects

Indian meal moth, Mediterranean flour moth, confused flour beetle, saw-toothed grain beetle and warehouse beetle all complete their life cycle in accumulated flour dust. In a bakery that dust is everywhere the eye cannot see: inside mixer frames, under conveyor belts, behind proofer panels, in the flights of a divider, on top of ductwork and beams, and inside the silo and blow line that nobody opens between services. Cleaning the floor does nothing for any of it.

Heat compounds the problem. Ovens, proofers and prover rooms hold high temperature and humidity around the clock, which accelerates insect development from weeks to days and creates ideal cockroach harbourage in equipment voids and electrical housings. A population that would take a season to build in a cool warehouse can build in a month in a bakery.

Supply chain is the other entry route. Flour arriving by bulk tanker or in bagged pallets can carry an existing infestation from the mill, and a single infested pallet placed in the dry store seeds the entire plant. Without pheromone monitoring at intake and in the store, the first sign is usually a customer complaint about webbing or larvae in finished product.

Our program

Our bakery program

Pheromone trap grid

Species-specific lures for flour moths and beetles placed through intake, dry store, production and packing, with catch counts trended per trap.

Equipment void treatment

Dusting and targeted application into mixer frames, dividers, conveyor housings, proofer panels and electrical enclosures during shutdown windows.

Silo, blow line and intake control

Inspection and treatment of silo interiors, sight glasses, sifters and receiving points where mill-borne insects arrive and establish.

High-level and structural cleaning advice

Identification of dust accumulation on beams, ducting and cable trays, with a prioritised cleaning schedule that removes the food source.

Rodent and cockroach cover

External bait station ring, internal monitoring and gel programs for the warm voids around ovens, proofers and plant rooms.

Retail front-of-house service

Discreet service for the shopfront, display cabinets, seating and bin areas so the retail side is covered under the same contract.

Documentation supplied to bakery operators

Experience

Bakery coverage across Sydney

Redback services wholesale bakeries, plant bakeries, patisseries and retail bakery chains across Sydney — from the industrial estates of Smeaton Grange, Ingleburn, Wetherill Park and Blacktown to shopfront bakeries in Parramatta, Liverpool, Bankstown and the inner west. Multi-site bakery groups run one contract with per-site schedules and a consolidated trend report.

Because our programs are HACCP-aligned and we are HACCP-based certified, the same evidence pack works for a retailer audit, a third-party certification audit and a council food inspection without reformatting.

  • Plant and wholesale bakeries
  • Retail bakeries, patisseries and cafés
  • Flour silos, blow lines and sifting equipment
  • Mixers, dividers, provers and oven surrounds
  • Dry stores, packing rooms and dispatch
  • Shopfront display cabinets and seating areas
FAQ

Questions we get asked

How did moths get into our flour?

Usually one of two ways: an infested delivery from the mill or supplier, or an established population breeding in flour dust inside equipment and structure. Pheromone monitoring at intake versus production tells us which, so the fix targets the right source.

Do we have to shut down for treatment?

Not usually. Most work is done during normal cleaning windows or planned shutdowns. Deep equipment void treatment is best scheduled into a shutdown, and we plan those in advance with your production manager.

Will pheromone traps attract more moths into the bakery?

No. Trap grids are designed and placed to intercept and measure the population already present, and lure strength and placement are selected so traps monitor zones rather than draw insects from outside.

Can you cover both the plant and our retail shops?

Yes. One contract can cover the production site and every retail outlet, each with its own schedule and records, plus a group-level trend report.

What causes recurring cockroaches near the ovens?

Warm, undisturbed equipment voids with flour residue. Surface treatment will not reach them — control comes from dusting and gelling inside the housings and removing the residue that sustains them.
