Food Processing Pest Control Sydney

Processing plants are wet, warm and washed down daily — a set of conditions that defeats standard pest programs. Redback builds wet-area programs around drains, floor junctions and effluent handling, where processing pest problems actually begin.

The risk

Wet processing environments breed different pests

Wash-down plants generate the specific conditions small flies need: organic film in floor drains, grease traps and effluent pits, standing water under equipment plinths, and protein residue in coving and floor-to-wall junctions. Drain flies, phorid flies and fruit flies breed in this film in a matter of days, and no amount of surface spraying will control them while the breeding medium remains.

Cockroaches exploit the same environment from a different angle, harbouring in warm, damp voids — motor housings, hollow equipment legs, conveyor frames, electrical panels and insulated panel joints — where wash-down water cannot reach them but humidity keeps them comfortable. Rodents follow product waste to the offal, trim and effluent areas and nest in insulated panel cavities that are almost impossible to inspect once sealed.

In a processing plant these are not aesthetic issues. Flies moving between an effluent pit and an exposed product surface is a direct pathogen transfer route, and NSW Food Authority licensing for meat, seafood, dairy and egg processors expects documented pest control as part of the approved food safety program. Findings here are licence findings, not housekeeping notes.

Our program

Our processing plant program

Drain and pit breeding survey

Every floor drain, grease trap, sump and effluent pit surveyed and treated with bio-foams or growth regulators to remove small fly breeding medium at source.

Equipment void treatment

Targeted gel and dust application into motor housings, hollow legs, conveyor frames and panel joints where cockroaches survive wash-down.

Wet-area fly management

EFK placement mapped away from exposed product, with catch analysis used to trace the breeding source rather than mask the symptom.

Effluent and waste zone control

Rodent and fly control across offal, trim, bin wash and effluent handling areas, including external waste compounds.

Panel cavity inspection

Rodent monitoring at insulated panel junctions, ceiling voids and service penetrations where nesting is otherwise invisible.

Food safety program evidence

Service records, product list and corrective actions formatted to slot into your approved food safety program for Food Authority audit.

Records supplied to licensed processors

  • Device map covering internal monitors, EFKs and external stations
  • Drain and breeding-site treatment log by location
  • APVMA-registered products applied to label in food-contact environments
  • Full SDS register and product approval documentation

Experience

Processing coverage across Sydney

Redback attends processing plants across Sydney's industrial west and south-west — from meat and smallgoods facilities through Smeaton Grange, Ingleburn and Wetherill Park, to seafood, produce and dairy operations near the markets and the port precincts. Wet-area work is scheduled around wash-down so treatment is applied to a clean, dry surface and is not stripped off hours later.

As a HACCP-based certified contractor and registered NSW Government supplier (ABN 50 664 332 852), our documentation is accepted by both third-party auditors and regulators, and our technicians are inducted to plant hygiene and PPE requirements before entering production areas.

  • Meat, poultry and smallgoods processing
  • Seafood handling and packing facilities
  • Dairy and beverage processing
  • Fruit, vegetable and salad processing
  • Grease traps, effluent pits and bin wash bays
  • Chillers, freezers and dispatch areas
FAQ

Questions we get asked

Why do we still have flies after spraying?

Because surface spraying kills adults but leaves the breeding medium intact. Small flies in processing plants breed in organic film inside drains, grease traps and pits — until that film is removed and treated, adults keep emerging within days.

Can treatments be applied in production areas?

Yes, using products and methods approved for food-handling environments, applied outside production and after wash-down, with all placements documented and no application to food-contact surfaces.

How do you find rodents inside panel cavities?

Through monitoring at panel junctions, penetrations and ceiling void access points, combined with evidence mapping — droppings, rub marks, gnawing and thermal clues — so we can pinpoint and open only the sections that need it.

Will your records satisfy the NSW Food Authority?

Yes. Service records, the device map, product list, SDS and corrective actions are formatted to sit inside your approved food safety program and be presented directly at audit.

Do you service after hours?

Yes. Most processing work is performed after production and after wash-down, including night and weekend attendance for continuous-run plants.
