Commercial Bird Control Sydney

Pigeons, starlings and mynas cost commercial sites far more in remediation and downtime than in the exclusion work that would have prevented them. Redback Commercial Pest Control Sydney delivers humane bird proofing, guano remediation and ongoing management for warehouses, retail, health and food facilities.

The risk

Why birds are a compliance and safety issue

Bird guano is not just unsightly. It is acidic enough to corrode roof sheeting, gutters, plant equipment and painted steel, it creates a serious slip hazard on walkways and loading docks, and it blocks drainage and box gutters — a leading cause of internal water damage on large-roof warehouse buildings. Accumulated droppings around plant rooms and air intakes also draw regulator and auditor attention immediately.

There is a genuine health dimension. Dried guano can carry pathogens including psittacosis and cryptococcus, and disturbing it during cleaning aerosolises particulate that requires respiratory protection and controlled work methods. Bird nests also host bird mites, which migrate indoors when the nest is abandoned and generate staff bite complaints that get misdiagnosed as fleas or bed bugs.

For food-handling and healthcare sites the issue is disqualifying. Birds roosting over loading docks, open dock doors, waste areas or outdoor dining fail audits and breach food safety requirements. Netting and proofing are also constrained by protected-species law in NSW — many native birds cannot be harmed, so the work must be exclusion-led and legally defensible.

Our program

Our bird management program

Site survey and species ID

We identify the species, roosting and nesting behaviour and pressure level, because the correct proofing system depends entirely on the bird and the structure.

Netting and exclusion

Stainless-cable netting to loading docks, atria, canopies, plant decks and awnings — the highest-pressure sites need physical exclusion, not deterrents.

Spiking, wire and ledge systems

Post-and-wire, spike and ledge modification for perching pressure on signage, parapets, beams, ledges and light fittings.

Guano remediation

Controlled clean-down with appropriate PPE and respiratory protection, disinfection and waste disposal, including mite treatment where nests are removed.

Height-safe delivery

EWP, rope access and roof-safety planning with site-specific SWMS, permits and inductions handled before crews arrive.

Maintenance inspections

Scheduled inspections of installed proofing so damaged panels or new pressure points are found before birds re-establish.

Documentation and safety on every bird job

  • Site-specific SWMS covering working at height and guano handling
  • Compliance with NSW protected-species requirements — exclusion-led methods
  • Respiratory protection and controlled clean-down procedures
  • Photographic before-and-after records for each proofed area
  • Waste handling and disinfection records
  • Public liability and workers compensation certificates of currency
Experience

Bird proofing across Sydney commercial assets

We proof and remediate loading docks, warehouse canopies, shopping centre atria, hospital plant decks, school COLAs, council amenities and food manufacturing docks across metropolitan Sydney, the Macarthur and south-west corridor, the Central Coast and Wollongong.

Bird work is scoped in stages — survey, remediation, exclusion, then maintenance — so property and facility managers can budget it as a capital item with a defined end point rather than an open-ended recurring cost.

  • Warehouse loading docks and canopies
  • Shopping centres, atria and food courts
  • Hospitals, plant decks and air intakes
  • Schools, COLAs and covered walkways
  • Council amenities, car parks and civic buildings
  • Food manufacturing docks and waste areas
FAQ

Questions we get asked

Is bird control legal in NSW?

Many native birds are protected, which is why our approach is exclusion-led — netting, proofing and ledge modification. We scope every job to comply with NSW protected-species requirements.

How long does netting last?

A correctly installed stainless-cable and UV-stabilised net system typically lasts ten years or more. We inspect installed proofing periodically so damage is repaired before birds re-enter.

Can you clean up existing guano?

Yes. Guano remediation is a controlled process with appropriate PPE, respiratory protection, disinfection and waste disposal, plus mite treatment where nests are removed.

Do you work at height and on live sites?

Yes. We deliver with EWP or rope access under a site-specific SWMS, with permits, inductions and out-of-hours scheduling arranged in advance for trading and operational sites.

Will deterrents alone fix a heavy roosting problem?

Rarely. Gels, sonics and visual deterrents shift low-pressure birds at best. Established roosting and nesting pressure needs physical exclusion to be resolved permanently.
