The risk

Why early learning centres need a different approach

Children under five put their hands on every surface and then in their mouths. That single fact changes the whole methodology: bait placement, product selection, residual choice, re-entry intervals and even where a monitor can be fixed all have to assume floor-level contact by a crawling child. Standard commercial practice is not sufficient in a nursery room.

At the same time, childcare centres are magnets for pests. Nappy bins and food waste sit outside in warm bin enclosures, kitchens prepare food daily for large groups, sandpits and garden beds sit directly against the building, and outdoor play areas with water features draw wasps, ants and mosquitoes. Cockroaches move in through cardboard deliveries; rodents come in from neighbouring lots along fence lines and drainage.

The compliance stake is high. A pest sighting during an assessment and rating visit, or a complaint from a parent, can affect a centre's rating and its enrolment pipeline. Approved providers need evidence that a licensed program is running, that products used around children are appropriate, and that hygiene defects identified in the report are actually being closed out.

Our program

Our early learning program

Overnight & weekend attendance

All treatments are performed when the centre is closed, with documented re-entry times before children arrive.

Low-toxicity first methodology

Monitoring, gels in sealed voids, insect growth regulators and physical exclusion before any broad residual application.

Nursery-room protocol

No accessible placements in rooms used by non-walkers — treatment is restricted to sealed voids, cavities and external areas.

Kitchen & bin enclosure control

Cockroach and rodent control in the kitchen, laundry, nappy store and external bin enclosure where the pressure actually starts.

Outdoor play area checks

Ant nests, wasp nests, spider harbourage and mosquito breeding points in sandpits, garden beds, play equipment and water features.

Assessment-ready reporting

Every visit produces a report, product list, SDS reference and defect list you can present at an NQF assessment visit.

Records supplied to approved providers

  • Working With Children Check verified technicians
  • Written pest management plan for the service's policy folder
  • SDS for every product, filed on site and available online
  • Documented re-entry intervals for each treated area
  • Licensed NSW technicians using APVMA-registered products to label
  • Photo-evidenced service reports and a hygiene defect register
Experience

Childcare coverage across Sydney

Redback services long day care, preschool and OOSH sites across metropolitan Sydney and the south-west growth corridor, including the fast-growing centre clusters through Oran Park, Gregory Hills, Leppington, Liverpool, Campbelltown and Penrith where new builds sit next to open land and construction — two of the strongest drivers of rodent pressure in Sydney.

We work with single-site owner operators and multi-centre groups alike. Groups get one contract, per-centre schedules and a consolidated portfolio report so the operations manager can see which sites are trending upward before it becomes a parent complaint.

  • Long day care and early learning centres
  • Community and department preschools
  • Before and after school care (OOSH) rooms

FAQ

Questions we get asked

Is the treatment safe for babies and toddlers?

Programs are built low-toxicity first: monitoring, sealed-void gels, growth regulators and physical exclusion are used before any residual product. Nothing accessible is placed in rooms used by non-walkers, all work is done while the centre is closed, and written re-entry times are provided.

When do you attend?

Overnight, early morning before opening, or on weekends. We do not treat with children present.

What do we show at an assessment and rating visit?

Your folder will hold a written pest management plan, the service schedule, each visit report with photos, the product list with SDS, and the defect register showing corrective actions closed out.

Can you help with ants and mosquitoes in the play yard?

Yes. Outdoor inspections cover ant nests, wasp and bee nests, spider harbourage and standing water that breeds mosquitoes, with recommendations for drainage and garden bed changes that reduce pressure permanently.

Do you service multi-centre groups?

Yes. One contract covers the group, each centre keeps its own schedule and records, and management receives a consolidated trend report across every site.
